A very important piece of equipment for the home workout is the pull-up bar. The pull-up bar develops back muscles, arm muscles and you can also do abdominal exercises including leg raises and oblique curls.
There are three basic types of pull-up bars which can be used at home. The first type and by far the most popular is the portable pull-up bar that can be easily installed and removed.
They basically resemble a bike rack and are curved. Some may have a single bar while other brands offer different handholds, positions and pads. Most brands require a door frame or a basement where you can attach or hang a bar. Be sure to read the specifications on any portable pull-up bar before you buy it.
Some chin up bar brands are made only to fit certain door widths. Be sure to measure your door opening, measure the wall and remove any obstacles such as cabinets which may get in the way. The second type of pull-up bar for home use is the wall mounted units. Most are designed to work on 8’ to 10’ ceilings and are adjustable from 14’ to 22’ away from the ceiling or wall.
The mounting holes should be centered on ceiling or wall studs at 48 inches. The third option for the home pull-up bar would be a pull-up station that is a stand alone unit. If you are looking for a dip attachment for chest or triceps please keep in mind the stand alone units may not offer this feature.
In conclusion, the pull-up bar is a great way to build muscles, get strong and burn those fat calories. Be sure to perform at least 15 minutes of warm up before using the pull-up bar. This will reduce the chance of injury. They come in a variety of styles from inexpensive and cheaply built types to more expensive solid pieces with added features.
Pull-up bars can be purchased online or at any retail or discount store. In general the prices range from $25 to $80. A home pull-up bar is a convenient and affordable way to improve your personal health.
